Hong Kong Ginger Jar
SKU:
PWJR7131BW10 This blue and white porcelain jar is adorned with the chinese word for Hong Kong. Each instance of the word is done in a different calligraphy which represents the generations of the past as well as the melting pot of ethnicities that call Hong Kong home. The ginger jar originated in the days of the Qin Dynasty (221 BCE-207 BCE) as a storage receptacle for spices like salt, oil, and ginger. When ginger became a chief export to the Western world, the vessels in which it was stored and transported became known as “ginger jars.”
