The original Qin terra-cotta warriors rest 35 km (56 miles) east of Xi'an, china at the base of the Lishan Mountain. These man sized underground army of warriors, horses and chariots took several hundred thousand workers, 36 years to construct and forms part of the Imperial tomb of Qin Shi Huangdi (260-210 BC), Emperor of China. The Emperor's Army was created to guard his tomb and to do battle after his death. The original site yields over 7000 life-size figures of which one is represented here in a standing stance. This hand made figure is constructed of heavy walled brass that is sand casted, hand worked and chemically oxidized to bring out the natural green coloured patina, characteristic of oxidized brass.
