Dragon and Phoenix Pattern Chinese Fortune Telling Sticks with Instruction Booklet.

The oracular consultation of the gods begun in the Shang period changed little in essence in later times.  The tsien tung cylinder was used by patients presenting themselves at the shrine of the god of medicine.  It was shaken until one of the sticks fell out; the inscription on the stick indicated the cure prescribed by the god.
